Thursday, Sept. 8 (A) & Friday, Sept. 9 (B): Given Close Reader workbooks + Extra Credit Opportunity

Announcements:

  • Starting today students were given a workbook entitled ‘Close Reader.’ If absent they’ll need to get one from their teacher. On the inside cover students should have written 1)their first name/nickname 2) last name 3) class period and 4) teacher’s name.
  • Close Readers need to be brought to class daily.

Assignments:

  • Today was the first notebook check. This was a student engagement grade. Absent students will need to submit their notebook to be checked upon their return to school since the work checked was not something completed on 9/8 or 9/9.
  • Teacher reviewed Close Readers with students.
  • The class started “He-y, Come On Out” in the Close Reader (for specific page number, please check the Index of Authors and Titles in the back of the Close Reader.)
  • Students copied down the examples for how to complete the “He-y, Come On Ou-t!” Details/What It Reveals Chart in their comp. books to refer to next class, when they’ll be given more time to complete the assignment. For the examples, please see the day’s power point.
  • The remainder of the period was spent in differentiated stations which included:
    • Extended time to finish up the “Life at Home in the 21st Century” Extended Response from 9/6 (A) & 9/1 (B.)
    • assigned Achieve 3000: “Milky Ways in the Making” (BR poll – AR poll tabs) classwork.

Home Learning:

  • Bring Collections textbook (black cover) to class until told otherwise.
  • Close Readers need to be brought to class daily.
  • Weekly A3Ks will be required each week. This week’s are due Sunday, 9/11 regardless of A or B day. For more info, please reference the Achieve 3000 vs. A3K page. Remember this is a regular home learning grade.
  • If not finished in class, complete the Article Analysis Sheet and Achieve 3000: “Milky Ways in the Making” (BR poll – AR poll tabs) by the start of next class.
  • Extra Credit: open to all, only first person to email me solution will get 1 point extra credit for student engagement if their solution works. Opportunity is open until we find a solution. I’ll reply to the winning student’s email and announce the opportunity is finished via blog to the rest. Your assignment if you choose to accept it is:
    • Find out how to freeze an image on the school all-in-one T.V. so attendance, login information, etc. can be looked at on the computer, but class still sees the information they need. (Like the freeze function on former projector.)
    • The brand is a NEC remote controller RU-M117
    • Looking for options other than Function 7 (F7) ‘Extend the Screen.’
