Wednesday, Nov. 7 – Leadership Wednesday

  • The Contender short response writing prompt on notebook paper was due to the class inbox for partial credit for those who were absent one week ago today.
  • Today students finished up their Introduction Notes, reviewed various styles of introductions for essay framing, and wrote a practice introduction paragraph.
  • For Leadership, students attended the speaker series in the auditorium and took Cornell Notes on former school board member, Hon. Becki Couch’s presentation.

Thursday, Nov. 8

  • The class completed a Gallery Walk and took notes on Body Paragraphs and Counterarguments. The video they needed for class today is above the announcements section of this post.
  • Students who were absent need to get the hard copy of their notes from their absent folder and get the notes from a class mate. These notes then need to be added to the argumentative side of the portfolio.
  • The class verbal debriefed the Gallery Walk to clear up any misconceptions, had the opportunity to ask questions regarding this part of the argumentative writing process, and completed an exit ticket.
  • These notes were collected and will be passed back next Wednesday.

Homework:

  • Each week students must complete a total of two (2) Achieve 3000 (A3K) articles between Sunday through Saturday at 11:59 P.M. (Articles submitted at 12 A.M. will be counted for the following week.)
  • In order to satisfy this requirement, students need to know:
    • Complete the activity in the LA2 section for credit.
    • The task is to read the article and complete the activity for each article.
    • Scores of 75% or higher on the first try are worth ten (10) points. Second try is worth zero (0) points regardless of score.
    • All other scores worth zero (0) points.
    • The teacher accepts your two highest, first try scores as the submission for the week, so there’s no reason to score beneath 20/20, or 100%

If not completed yet, remember:

  • Each student is responsible for the copy of The Contender that is checked out in their name. Once finished with the final project and writing assignment for the novel, please return the novel to the librarian.
